Red-Eye Flash Filter: Retro Party Flash With a Red Cast
Red eye was the most famous flaw of compact cameras: the flash sat so close to the lens that it bounced off the back of the eye and came back glowing red. Paired with a warm, reddish flash cast and dark surroundings, it became a signature of 2000s party photos.

What this filter does
The free Red-Eye Flash preset recreates the warm flash color, red-tinted shadows and glow of those photos. For actual red pupils, use AI mode: it adds the classic red-eye reflection while keeping your face and identity unchanged.
- Warm red-magenta flash cast
- Simulated flash falloff into dark edges
- Red-tinted shadows and soft highlight glow
- Grain and slight low-resolution softness
- AI mode adds the red-eye reflection itself
Best for
- Party and house-party photos
- Funny or ironic throwback posts
- Halloween and themed nights
What causes red eye — and how we recreate it
Red eye happens when light from a flash right next to the lens enters wide-open pupils in a dark room, reflects off the blood-rich back of the eye and returns straight to the lens. That is why it shows up most in dim rooms and with small cameras.
Detecting eyes reliably needs a model, so the free canvas preset focuses on everything around it: the warm flash color, the dark falloff and the glow. AI mode handles the eyes and adds a believable red reflection while preserving your facial features.
Tip: photos where the subject looks into the camera give AI mode the clearest result.
Red-Eye Flash FAQ
Does the free filter add red eyes?+
The free filter recreates the red-cast flash look but does not detect eyes. AI mode adds the actual red-eye reflection.
Will AI mode change my face?+
It is instructed to keep your face shape, features, age and identity exactly the same and only change light, color and the eye reflection.
How many AI generations are free?+
One AI image is free without an account, and signing up adds 3 free credits. After that, each 1K AI image uses 1 credit (2K uses 2). Refused or failed generations are never charged.
Is this the same as the Y2K flash filter?+
Both use direct flash, but red-eye flash is warmer and redder, with a stronger party mood.
